Familiarizing yourself with the work of an MFA program’s faculty and alumni is a great way to help determine whether that program is a good fit for you.
The most recent issue of Image Journal, #67, happens to feature two MFA faculty– poetry mentors Jeanine Hathaway and Jeanne Murray Walker– as well as 2009 Creative Nonfiction graduate Allison Backous.
Don’t miss Jeanine Hathaway’s two poems: “Echo” and “Before Entering.”
Jeanne Murray Walker writes about falling in love with Shakespeare, in a family that rolled its eyes at him.
Allison Backous looks at Chicago’s bleak south suburbs through the lens of her family’s history, as she probes the mystery of her grandmother’s burial place.
Issue 67’s editorial statement, written by SPU MFA Program Director Gregory Wolfe, is adapted from the commencement address delivered to graduating students at the summer residency on August 7, 2010. It is titled “Stalking the Spirit.” Read it online here.
