Desktop Computer Scanning Instructions with Windows 7 (Canoscan)

Seattle Pacific University’s library offers sit-down scanning at four dual-screen computers. To access the scanner, insert the username and password log on and place the picture or document inside the cover-flap of the scanner.


#1 Click on the [Start Menu], then select [Devices and Printers] on the right hand column

#2 Select [CanoScan LiDE 700F] under the Devices category

#3 Click on the option to [Scan Photos or Documents]

#4 Before the document scans, this screen will pop up and ask for scanning preferences.  Under “Profile,” select either [Photo] or [Document].  The source should remain Flatbed.  For the color, select [Color][Grayscale], or [Black and White].  When scanning a photo, the default is color; when scanning a document, the default is grayscale.  With regards to the resolution, a higher resolution will produce a clearer scan but will also create a larger file size.  A lower resolution will produce a clear scan with a smaller file size.  After the preferences are set, push [Scan]

#5 If the document/photo is scanning correctly, the scanner will make noise and show the progress of the scan through the use of the green progress bar

#6 Once the scan is complete, this prompt will appear at the bottom right hand side of the screen.  Do not tag the pictures.  Push [Import]

#7 After importing, the scan is automatically placed into the [My Pictures] folder under [Libraries]

#8 Once the picture is imported, the file is saved in the users My Pictures folder. Most likely, C:\Users\spuusername\My Pictures

#9 The image may now be saved elsewhere, manipulated in Adobe Acrobat Pro, used in Word, or elsewhere.
